I was so excited to see Benita Veliz speak at the Democratic National Convention. This is the first time that an undocumented dream-act activist has spoken at a national party convention. Ms. Veliz brings hope to all those undocumented youth who came to the U.S. young through no fault of their own and have grown up as an American. It is to the benefit of the United States that we let these children and young adults adjust their status so that they may contribute to the only country they have known. Obama’s “deferred action” program is a start but it is Not the Dream Act and not enough. See Benita’s speech below.
